Thanking your future self!
This week is a busy one at work for me, so over the weekend I decided to cook up a storm for the family that I knew my future self would definitely thank me for.
I spent just under three hours in the kitchen on Saturday getting organised for the week ahead. (Thank you Mingle!)
Now, three hours might sound like a lot of time to give up on a weekend, but when I think about the mid-week time it has saved me, I’m pretty chuffed with myself!
By spending those few hours planning, prepping and getting food sorted, I’ve probably freed up six or seven hours during the week. That’s hours I would normally spend standing in the kitchen thinking, What’s for dinner? Heading to the shops to grab ingredients, cooking from scratch and, of course, cleaning up afterwards.
Instead, dinner is sorted. The stress is gone. And after a busy day at work, we’ve been coming home knowing the hard part is already done.
Sometimes setting your future self up for success doesn’t have to be anything groundbreaking. It can be as simple as giving up a few hours now to make life easier later.
So this week, I’m saying a big thank you to Saturday me.
P.S I portioned all meals so there was no overeating, making sure we actually had left overs for lunch. Ans thanks to a trusty chalkboard pen, I just write on the lids what’s in side.
